What is data privacy?
Data privacy is about your right to keep your information safe from legitimate websites, advertisers, businesses, and others. When it comes to technology, there’s often a balance between privacy and ease of use. Many websites, apps, and devices will request that you share some of your personal information while you use them. This can make it easier to access their features, but it may also mean giving up some of your privacy. Learn more ways to Take Control of Your Data.
Here are common types of data you might be asked for:
- Your location
- Your contacts
- Your photos and camera
- Data about your behavior and use of a service
What helps control personal data usage?
Data is collected everyday by using a computer, smartphone, smart speakers, or even your car! Always read privacy policies so you know how your data is collected, shared, and sold. Take the time to adjust the settings on all your internet connected devices. This may include disabling access to your camera, microphone, and location or limiting access to your contacts and photos.
